Flume - Holdin On

·         Using Barthesnarrative codes we can deconstruct the message or purpose of this video.

·         Action codes of the artist performing live in front of crowds of people show that Flume is clearly very popular as an artist and it also displays the target audience of his music as being young and people that enjoy going to festivals. The crowds are full of people dancing. There are also many shots of him traveling or moving to different locations, showing that he is known worldwide as an artist and he clearly works hard, this is also shown by the shots of him working on his laptop. He appears to have a great time during the video, displaying how much he enjoys his job.

·         He uses a high cutting rate for parts in the video when he is not performing to an audience, giving us glimpses o behind the scene parts to his life. These enigma codes make the audience curious into what an artist like himself does when they are not performing.

·         Barthes would argue that culture codes are used in the video as he performs to such large audiences, showing how popular this type of electric music now is. The use of mise en scene at the festivals and post production techniques of the happy audiences faces shown in slow motion, almost act as a selling point for the artist to advertise how popular his music is and how much people enjoy it.
