JT: Responding To A Track

Flume – Holdin On

  • This is electronic chilled out music, which is all produced on electronic musical instruments.  Purely electronic sound production can be achieved using specialised computer programmes. I think the music could represent both a hi fi and a lo fi music video as this type of music is at the moment listened to by a niche audience and is not mainstream like pop chart music heard by everyone. However the electronic sound is obviously very modern sounding and therefore could also have a Hi-Fi music video.
  • An example of a similar video that comes under the same genre as Flume, would be Disclosure – White Noise

  • This video is set in Detroit in abandoned run down locations. There is a clear dark, shadowy colour theme as these locations are empty and unused. High quality filming equipment is clearly used; however there is no use of CGI or special effects which would make the film budget a lot lower. Furthermore there is no performance in the video as electronic tracks are usually produced by one or two people without the use of instruments such as guitars and drums. Therefore we would not have to consider grain of voice as a character will not be singing.
  • Our video, if we were to choose this track, would be more of a montage then having a story or narrative to it. As it is a very contemporary style of music I think we should film urban city locations where lots of action is going on or a clear theme is followed throughout. Having a clear colour grade or theme throughout is key to a video I believe weather darker or lighter, which we can do using Adobe Premiere without assistance.
